Beer
Although I certainly wouldn't claim to be an expert beer taster, I do have some definite opinions on
what a good beer is. This is my list of favorites.
- Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat -- Like the name implies, this beer is unfiltered and looks cloudy. The Boulevard web site says,
"Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer, available since 2000 both in bottles and on
draught, is a lively, refreshing ale with a citrusy flavor and distinctive
cloudy appearance. Our Unfiltered Wheat is reminiscent of the wheat beers that
were brewed at the turn of the century, before the advent of modern filtration."
Basically, it has a smooth, slightly sweet flavor
without a strong after-taste. Equally good on draught or bottled.
- New Castle Brown Ale -- A sweeter, more caramel tasting beer than Boulevard.
- St. Pauli Girl (Lager)
- Too Talls Two, Kirksville, MO -- Home of the $2 pitcher. Not Boulevard, Milwaukee's Best Light (still the cheapest
beer around). Also famous for H's -- a spicy cheese and meat, nacho-like appetizer.
- Dave & Busters -- I'm not a huge fan of D&B, mostly because I've had lousy service several times, but I love the games
(and the wide variety of beers on tap). They have two from my favorites list: Boulevard and New Castle.
- Home (can't beat those Lukas Liquor prices!)
