Safari 1.1

Mac OS X Panther ships with Safari 1.1 that adds support for the CSS text-shadow attribute and RGBA colors, which provides alpha channel transparency without using graphic files–the first browser to support text-shadow since it was recommended in CSS2 in 1998! You can read all about Panther's implementation at Dave Hyatt's weblog and a summary of the CSS standards at text-align.

I've updated this site's standard stylesheet to put a drop shadow on all headers. If you don't have Safari or a Mac, now is the time to install/buy!

Geocaching

Today I learned about Geocaching – basically orienteering with a handheld GPS receiver. The task is to find an object hidden, usually in a public park, by another Geocacher. The Geocaching.com database records the exact latitude and longitude of more than 70,000 caches you can search for.

There are several within two miles from my house and two in Bluebird Park (walking distance from home).

I'll post details about my first hunt. Next weekend?
