Mac OS X vs. Windows XP

Dan Pouliot has assembled a thorough (but unscientific) comparison of Mac OS X Jaguar and Windows XP. I don't want to spoil it for you but OS X wins despite wrongly losing to XP on security, video editing transitions and titles, and remote control (SSH is more secure and nearly as useful and Remote Desktop).

I particularly like the coverage of dialog boxes. It's one of the things you can almost overlook while using OS X until you switch back to Windows and realize how crappy Yes/No/Cancel is.

House Hunting

We're looking for a new house. We have no good reason to move now except to take advantage of the low mortgage rates.

Required attributes:

  • Located in the Ballwin/Chesterfield/Wildwood area with good access to highway 40 (I work in Hazelwood and don't want to extend my commute time by moving farther from the office)
  • Three bedrooms
  • Two full bathrooms
  • Basement
  • Two car garage
  • Modern infrastructure, HVAC, roof, water heater, kitchen and bathroom fixtures
  • Neutral decor
  • New carpets or hardwood floors in good condition
  • Open floor plan with vaulted ceilings preferred
  • Some sort of architectural features. I won't live in a box.

A house with these features seems to be unattainable in our target price range (< $225,000) but we haven't given up hope. If you have any tips, let me know.
