Charter Sucks!

My Pipeline service started to crap out Thursday night and finally died on Friday afternoon. A reasonably competitant support tech suggested I come in to trade in my modem as it was possible it was damaged during the storms. There was a line of people also wanting to trade modems and cable boxes. I got home and the stupid thing wouldn't even power up! They gave me a 1.5A power supply for a modem rated 1A max!

I had to wait until Monday morning to pickup another modem and couldn't test it until after work. When it didn't work I called tech support again. They said I would have to wait until Thursday for a support person to check the wiring in the house and between the house and the pole. A few hours later I saw a Charter van down the street and by 6:00 there were two trucks working in the yard of a house two doors down. They said they only knew of one house that was out of service even though I had been calling nearly every day.

They had it working by 8:00 but I'm still thinking about moving to the business plan. Hopefully they can fix an outage in less than three days.

Update: Charter sent a form letter apologizing for the performance issues and promising better service in the future. They also increased the download speed limit to 2 mbs (from 768 kbs) for the next four months. For the record, I'm happy to have been using Charter Pipeline for nearly three years. It's still the best broadband option available in St. Louis.

Skydive anniversary

It's already been a year since my first (and last?) skydive. I finally finished writing about the whole experience.

You can read about it in the Travel section > Skydive

Photoshop Fun

I finally completed a tutorial on creating custom "Matrix Code" that I linked to on MacMerc.com in a previous entry. Here is my attempt.

The only thing I added was the final font that MacMerc didn't provide. It's called Miltown and it's available for free.

Nature Trail

The new subdivision has a trail around the corner from our new house and it's awesome!

We've walked it two evening in a row now and I'm really loving the woods at dusk. The city of Ellisville's web site says Bluebird park is 155 acres and I suspect most of that is the woods the trail runs through.

This evening we saw three deer feeding along the trail's edge. We were able to get quite close before they ran into the underbrush.

There are also several park features that impress me: a 9 hole disc-golf course and a Par Course with exercise stations along the trail and tucked into the woods.

I'm really excited about this so hopefully it will give me an incentive to workout a little more often.
